ABOUT
Piotr Krysiak (b. 1982) is a Polish painter based in Warsaw. He holds an MFA from the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. His practice is built on a single, long-evolved series of works in which each brushstroke conditions the ones to come. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Art Basel Group Show with Alfa Gallery, the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art in South Korea, and the National Museum in Kraków, and is held in public and private collections in Europe, the USA, and New Zealand.

STATEMENT
I fill circular canvases with sequential brushstrokes of grey paint. The circle’s continuous edge allows the first strokes to follow it without interruption. Grey, perceived as neutral, minimizes colour as a subject, leaving the painting as a record of its making. Each stroke is laid as closely as possible along the edge of the earlier ones, requiring sustained concentration and adaptation to their irregularities. These deviations reshape what follows in ways that resist prediction. Hand instability, distractions, and fatigue become inseparable from the work’s development — seemingly insignificant factors that irreversibly redirect the process.

Each painting is titled with its start and end dates, and the total number of strokes applied — a factual record of its making.
